Every time I show up at at a tropical dive destination, other divers laugh at me for wearing a 5mil wetsuit and a beanie cap in 28C/82F water.

Mistake #4 – Wearing the incorrect amount of weight

Picture a brick, the kind used in home building. Imagine carrying it around with you all the time – taking it up stairs, trudging up a hill, etc.

Wearing a snorkel

Proper weighting

Divers often believe that being over-weighted is better than not having enough, and this is true up to a point. When doing a deep dive it is especially important that you can maintain your depth for the safety stop at 15 feet.

Diving is kind of like riding a bike: Once you are on it, and you’ve gained some momentum, the muscle memory returns and it starts to feel natural (or at least somewhat comfortable) again.
